You need to be proactive.  Savvy marketers can boost sales and market share\, even if the industry in which they compete is in a slump.  Their marketing strategies convince prospective customers that their product or service has value and is a wise investment.   Economic downturns reward the aggressive marketers and penalize the timid ones.
