Human trafficking isn't something that happens "somewhere else." It's happening in our neighborhoods, our schools, and closer to home than most people realize. And most people wouldn't recognize it if they saw it.
On May 19th, Youth Rising-Up Initiative is bringing a critical, community-focused Lunch & Learn to the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce. In 60 minutes, we'll cut through the myths, equip you with real knowledge, and give you practical tools to protect the young people in your life.
Part One: Understanding Human Trafficking
We'll break down what trafficking actually looks like in our communities, who is most at risk, and why vulnerabilities like social isolation, mental health struggles, and the desperate need to belong make young people prime targets. You'll learn the red flags that are easy to miss, the myths that cause people to look the other way, and — most importantly — what to do and what NOT to do if you suspect someone is being trafficked. The wrong response can put a victim in greater danger, and we'll make sure you know the difference.
Part Two: The Digital Danger Zone
Traffickers don't need to approach kids on the street anymore — they do it through gaming chat rooms, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, building trust over weeks before exploitation begins. We'll show you how online grooming works, what to watch for on your child's devices, and how to build a household digital safety plan that protects your kids without shutting down communication.
This isn't about leaving you alarmed. It's about leaving you prepared.
Bring your lunch. Bring your curiosity. Bring a colleague who needs to hear this.
Space is limited — reserve your spot today.
The Chamber will provide water, coffee and light snacks. Feel free to bring a lunch if desired.
