Job Description
FULL-TIME POSITION:
$31,824 - $45,552 (DOQ) plus excellent fringe benefits. Generally scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some scheduled evening/weekend hours.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check, child abuse registry and sex-offender registry check, CVSA or polygraph, driving check through DMV, drug screen, and fingerprint checks through CBI.
Training - High school graduate or GED equivalent supplemented by at least 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university with coursework in human relations, sociology, psychology or a related field. Bachelor?s degree in social work or human behavioral sciences or paralegal training preferred.
Experience ? Two years of increasingly responsible public contact experience in a social service-related field. OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.
Necessary Special Requirements - Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL REQUIRED TASKS: Provides paraprofessional services to clients in support of a professional social caseworker and previously developed case plans, makes home visits, assists with activities of daily living, supervises visitations, informs and contacts foster families and birth families on case progress and other required services. Work includes a variety of program areas such as child abuse and neglect cases and youth-in-conflict cases. Provides transportation services to and from client appointments, court hearings, and placements. Identifies potential client problems and notifies caseworker(s) of crisis situations. Identifies and reports neglect or abuse that may be evident in interactions with clients. Assists with paperwork requests, including, but not limited to, filing of case files, making placement packets, pulling and copying paperwork for state records. Assists clients in applying for benefits and services such as housing, day care financial assistance, health and legal assistance. Prepares a variety of reports and projects as requested by the supervisor. Screens abuse and neglect hotline calls and enters data into Trails.
Provides emotional support/nurturing to families and children; utilizes relationships with clients to facilitate growth, family stability and goal attainment. Instructs parents in parenting skills, provide role model techniques, research and offer ideas for activities parents can do with their children and for better communication skills with children. Instructs clients in life skills, such as budgeting, shopping, finding and maintaining quality day care, personal hygiene, finding and maintaining housing, transportation issues, finding and using community resources, and promoting positive self- image and self-esteem. Participates in the Nurturing Parents Program by recruiting, training and supervising adult volunteers.
Coordinates necessary appointments for children in placement with foster parents, school staff and medical offices. Makes appointments for dental and medical checkups. Updates caseworkers/supervisor of family progress and assists any/all caseworkers as needed. Establishes and maintains clear communications with staff, clients, foster parents, other professional agencies, school staff and family members. Documents communications with clients; assists in creating case plans with caseworkers; coordinates visitation schedules.
Maintains confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state and county rules and regulations. Works as part of a team to avoid duplication of service and to ensure that client expectations are recognized and resolved thereby minimizing family conflicts. Maintains awareness of federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations pertaining to Health & Human Services operations. Assists in the development of new projects or activities. Operates office equipment as required including computer and applicable software. Operates a motor vehicle. Performs related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The noise level in the environment is moderate. Work requires primarily indoor activities. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some evening, weekend and holiday hours as required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear, walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to lift and carry infants and small children in the care and custody of the Health and Human Services Department, as well as case files and client?s personal belongings going to storage or another location. Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body). Travel by automobile is required to attend meetings. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
