Taking Care of Each Other - Broomfield FISH Releases 2023 Annual Report

In their 60th anniversary year, Broomfield FISH served a record number of people and distributed more food than at any other point in their history as an organization.

BROOMFIELD, CO, APRIL 15, 2024 – Broomfield FISH, the local food bank and family resource center serving Broomfield County, has released their 2023 annual report, which details how over the past year, FISH served over 13,000 unduplicated people, or one in six Broomfield residents, with food, housing, and utility assistance programs, as well as family development offerings.

Dayna Scott, FISH’s Executive Director, and Stephanie Planchard, FISH’s Board Chair, state that the rapidly increasing cost of living, which has outpaced wages, combined with high rent costs and a lack of income-aligned housing options have driven the record-breaking need in Broomfield. In detailing key factors of the housing crisis, the report shares that there are over 3,200 cost-burdened renter households in Broomfield and that rent prices have increased over 75% in the past 10 years. In 2023, FISH provided over 730 people with housing assistance and distributed over 1.5 million pounds of food.

The report also shares stories of strength and resilience from FISH’s participants and how community support through business partnerships, volunteering, financial donations, and food drives sustain FISH’s work to feed families and keep them housed. Scott and Planchard point out that “what is so beautiful about the Broomfield community is that we are deeply committed to taking care of each other.” Read the full report online at www.broomfieldfish.org/about-fish.
